WELCOME

WelcomeWelcome in the name of Christ!   So many faces....so many ministries...so many blessings.  We do have so much for which to give thanks at St. Mark Lutheran Church!  God has filled our cup to overflowing.  As you look over this website, our hope is that you will sense the excitement for ministry that fills this congregation.  God's Grace is truly "contagious" in this community of faith.  We also hope that you will sense the love of God reaching out from person to person, and from this congregation into the community and even into the whole world.  The compassion of Christ is made visible in the love we share with one another and with our neighbors.

The central themes of the St. Mark mission statement are:
Discipleship - Following in the way of Jesus our Good Shepherd
Welcoming - Opening ourselves to friends, neighbors, and strangers alike
Growing - Enlarging our discipleship and opportunities for ministry
Caring - Reaching out in compassion to make Christ known

In the pages of this website, you will see these themes underlying all of the ministries and activities.  It is our prayer that you will find comfort and hope in these images and, most importantly, in the all encompassing Grace of God.  If you are ever visiting Wheeling or are a resident of Wheeling in search of a church home, we hope that you can worship with us.

May you know the joy of following Christ now and always.

ST. MARK CHURCH CELEBRATES 90TH ANNIVERSARY
St. Mark BuildingSt. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 141 Kruger Street in Wheeling, is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year!  The congregation is deeply grateful to God for empowering ministry at St. Mark for so many years.  The church also wishes to use this opportunity to give thanks and to look ahead to the mission opportunities of the present and future.   To highlight the anniversary year, St. Mark is welcoming back several "sons of the congregation" as guest preachers on various Sundays.  These are young men (who now have a few gray hairs) who were raised in the congregation and were ordained to the pastoral ministry while holding membership at St. Mark.  On November 4th, the celebration of the anniversary year will conclude with a "Grand Anniversary Celebration".  Bishop Ralph Dunkin of the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will be the guest preacher on that day.
